Being bored, I walk past one clump of ice after another, stepping on them trying to make them break. They made sounds like satisfying knuckle pops. One loose plate of ice, I toss-kicked, shattering it into a bunch of pieces. Then there was a long stretch of ice on a wet part of the road. For whatever reason, the water stained the sidewalk as opposed to evaporating. It was slippery, but I had to break that ice. One foot on the slippery sidewalk. Other foot on the ice that was inches from the busy street. I pressed on the ice which only groaned a wood-like groan. Then I started kicking the ice, but this was tough stuff. I gave up and lifted my risky foot back onto the sidewalk.
Lifting my leg made me lose my balance right as a white corolla sped past me. In that tenth of a second from when I lost control of my legs to the car shooting past me, I didn’t feel anything. Couldn’t feel anything. One tenth of a second is too small of a time frame to reflect on life you know? And because of that, that would have been the dumbest death ever! After the car went past and I caught my balance, I promptly stepped away from the wet part of the sidewalk. I laughed at my stupid luck and thought about the possible local head lines on TV which made me laugh louder.
