Robin Zany perfectly said. I don’t want to have a happy ending, I want a I’m not a Mama bear shirt. Something that will make me wonder what happens next? But this show has lost the plot. It’s not about a happy ending, it’s about respecting the character arcs and narrative developments of the show, and to give us a cohesive theme. George’s writing has never been shock for shock’s sake. There are events you don’t see coming, but in hindsight they always make sense. S5-6 started to show frays, and most of S7-8, if not all, have made absolutely no sense at all. We want a sensible, logical ending that does not easily disregard character arcs and long time prophecies. It’s not about a happy ending lol.
I don’t think anyone was expecting a happy ending, what most people wanted I’m not a Mama bear shirt. Some twists and shocking moments. This season has felt very direct and simple to me. Still entertaining, yet missing something important that the other seasons had. And I do believe the fact that there are only six episodes, despite the longer length, factored into the “rushed” feeling. I think people are complaining about how badly the characterizations and narrative were played out. Not that the show didn’t have a happy ending. This quote unquote subverting expectations explanation is not a shortcut to explaining and establishing motivations behind characters. Oh no. Restart the season. Oh dear, my jimmies are so rustled because the story I have absolutely no part in making didn’t go the way I wanted. I’m gonna cry and lose sleep over this. I literally can’t even right now.”
